We make clothes for Sri Lankan women who want something that fits properly and does not turn up on everyone else.
Chance is a womenswear label working out of Sri Lanka. Dresses, tops and blouses, kurta and skirts, cut and sewn here rather than ordered in by the container.
We make in short runs. That is a deliberate choice and it has one obvious downside, which is that a piece you like today may not be here next month. What you get in return is that the same dress is not on three other women at the same wedding, and that we can change the fit between runs when customers tell us something sits wrong.
Most of what we know about fit has come from messages. Someone writes to say the shoulders pull, or that the length works for her but the waist does not, and the next run is cut differently. That is a slower way to design, but it is the reason the sizing works.
- Short runs
- Limited numbers of each piece, restocked only when it makes sense
- Made here
- Cut, sewn and finished in Sri Lanka
- Island-wide
- Delivered in three to four working days, cash on delivery available
If a piece does not fit the woman it was made for, nothing else about it matters.
How we think about design
How we work
Fit before trend
A silhouette that photographs well but pulls across the back is a failed piece. We would rather recut something twice than send it out early.
Fabric for this climate
Humidity decides a lot. We choose cloth that holds up through a long evening here, not what looks good folded on a shelf.
Answer properly
When someone asks whether a dress will suit them, they get a real answer, including when the honest answer is that it will not.
Come and see
New pieces go up through the week. If you are unsure about sizing, message us before you order rather than after.
